Welcome Andrew and Rory, our new FIRST VISTAS!

Welcome Andrew and Rory, our new FIRST VISTAS!

KC STEM Alliance is happy to announce the addition of two Kansas City FIRST team alumni as FIRST® AmeriCorps VISTAs in Kansas City.  Andrew Rios and Rory Smith bring a wealth of FIRST knowledge to their roles as Federal Resources. They have been key performers already in their first two months of service that started 9/28/17.  Andrew is working with FIRST LEGO League teams and Rory with FIRST Tech Challenge teams in the city.  Both are working with FIRST Robotics Competition teams at the Kansas City Engineering Zone and KC area as well as sustaining our ability to deliver all of the FIRST tournaments in Kansas City.

Andrew is a graduate of Bishop Miege High School, was on Team 1997 Stag Robotics for four years, and studied engineering at Pittsburg State Univeristy.

Rory is a graduate of Lee's Summit High School and was on Team 1730 Team Driven for four years where he specialized in machining.

Andrew and Rory join the proud tradition of FIRST® AmeriCorps VISTA in Kansas City begun by Malcolm Strickland and continuing with Dylan Fuehrer, Chloe Brown, and Collin Robinett who have successfully completed their terms and benefitted the Kansas City STEM community tremendously.

The FIRST AmeriCorps VISTA mission is to expand the vision of FIRST by working in areas that have been deemed underserved: lower socio-economic communities, rural areas, and areas that have little to no support or resources to be able to easily access STEM initiatives.
